Canzano: Oregon Ducks -- and Dan Lanning -- ready for the big stage
What's really at stake in this Ohio State game?
Dan Lanning sounded like a guy trying to relax on Thursday. I visited with him in a wide-ranging 1-on-1 interview.
On Saturday, Oregon hosts Ohio State in the biggest football game in the country. It’s a matchup that everyone circled when the schedule was released. Standing-room-only tickets are sold out. ESPN’s College GameDay is in town, and more than 220 media members are credentialed for the game.
On Thursday, Lanning talked with me about his quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, and defensive tackle, Jordan Burch. We also bantered about musical instruments and new songs on his pre-game playlist, and at one point, I asked Oregon’s coach how much daily screen time he was averaging this week.
“Oh man,” he shot back, “too much.”
Then, UO’s coach checked his iPhone and reported: “5 hours and 24 minutes.”
