Canzano: Ole Miss-Clemson NCAA tampering probe has new wrinkle
NCAA in contact with Fresno State.
The NCAA tampering probe involving Ole Miss got a twist on Wednesday.
One that involves Fresno State.
NCAA investigators had contact with the Bulldogs’ athletic department this week, per sources. The contact stems from allegations that an Ole Miss football staff member made improper contact and tampered with Fresno State receiver Josiah Freeman, a sixth-year senior and the team’s leading receiver.
Matt Entz, the coach at Fresno State, declined to comment on Wednesday. Bulldogs’ athletic director, Garrett Klassy, isn’t talking, either. I’m told by NCAA sources that Freeman provided screenshots of the communications to officials.
“Fresno State has receipts,” a source said.
The latest tampering allegation against Ole Miss dovetails with one made by Clemson coach Dabo Swinney last week. Swinney has accused the Rebels of tampering with linebacker Luke Ferrelli, a transfer from Cal who enrolled at Clemson, but then left suddenly to go to Ole Miss.
