On a different note, going back to the weekend, I've had thoughts of naming the catch by Harrison or that entire sequence something. Part of me is thinking to make a poster of it and bring it to the student section on Saturday. I put a poll on the OSU reddit and it of the options posted, "midnight miracle" won. Seems like a good name, but wanted your thoughts on it. Almost called in the last couple of days, but social anxiety got the better of me. At least I got motivated enough to finally create an account to comment.
I just finished reading Oregon's tribute, in the Oregon Alumni newsletter, to Lorry Lokey on his passing. A shining example of the true spirit of humanity in the area of academics and education. Oh that the world had more like him with the same wisdom and where to best invest one's fortune. Rest in peace, Mr Lokey.
Just wondering how much of the home field winning % nationally is influenced by payday games? Little Sisters of the Poor will play at Alabama, but Alabama ain't playing at Little Sisters of the Poor...for a lot of teams, that's 1/11 or 2/11 of their schedule.
I looked at that… you’re correct. Cupcakes at home for the major non conference games. But the home favorites also still cover more often than not. It’s an interesting study. When in doubt… take the home team.
The USC vs Utah game is the premiere Pac 12 game this week. Utah’s home advantage at altitude with their stadium packed with energetic fans is perhaps the toughest place for visitors to play this year. Still, I think USC is the better team and will find a way to win this game.
The Cougs always play Andy Grammer's "Back Home" between the first and second quarters at Martin Stadium, set to a Cougar highlight reel. Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvJw4xnrQSw&t=21s The crowd sings along and really gets into it. Lots of fun.
John . If you ever listen to Oregon State University’s Alma Mater song , “Carry Me Back”, composed in 1919, it is a beautiful piece of music and by far the BEST homecoming song in the Pac-12.
I think some stadiums for their home team is worth more then other home stadiums . Reser , Autzen , and UW Huskyvstadium bring more bocalizatiin then Bezerkly or Stanford stadium…that’s due primarily to having a louder cheer section then others . Remember what L. Riley said after USC barely beat OSU…. He was overwhelmed by OSU cheering …. And Reser was only 1/2 filled !….. so, I would rate Reser first , Autzen 2nd , and Husky stadium 3rd in
The Ducks lead the conference in offensive PPG and YPG, with nearly even balance between run and pass - despite getting only 3 against Georgia. They clearly have one of the better offenses in the league. The defence numbers aren't as glossy, but a deeper dive reveals more quality than meets the eye. I like this team a lot - and not just because I am a fan. Guess we'll know more after the UCLA game. Demonstrating my grasp of the obvious.
John, love the stats you are giving! It is interesting to see how productive all (most?) of the offenses in this league are. And how many yards they give up! Productive offensive will often cause the defense to give up a lot of yards. There are a couple of reasons for that. Like if the team gets out ahead the second unit will come in or the D-Cord will try some new schemes. Or the down team will try airing out more, and that will ultimately yield more yards. Winning teams that don't have potent offenses tend to have very stout defenses that look great on the stat sheet. Yards don't win or loose games, points do.
I love seeing offensives fly around the field. And this is a GREAT year for that in the PAC12.
Cal will go to 4-2 but the schedule is backloaded so that means nothing. I think Washington State wins easily at Oregon State, Notre Dame wins easily over Stanford.
I agree with all of your picks for this weekend which I know is the kiss of death.
I'd be interested in your opinion of the new commissioner to date. So far I am not impressed. He was played by the B1G commissioner and also played by USC's Carol Folt when the decision was made not to go the the Pac-20 with K State, Kansas, OK St, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Houston and BYU.
John, I agree with your picks. My favorite coming home song, Matt Kearney’s “Coming Home (Oregon)”. Played at every Duck home game.
Gotta love Matt Kearney's Coming Home song.
Amen

Ask your daughter !….
Can’t believe it’s week 7 already. Always enjoy seeing how your picks fair. Go Ducks and Beavs.
I agree with all of your picks this week, except I think the Cougs will squeak out a win over the Beavers. Good luck!
