A big "neener, neener" to the B1G teams from WSU and OSU which are on the national CW network and enjoying nationwide audience access which greatly exceeds anything the Pac-12 network ever did!
As duck and huskie fans, you have to know that Fox and Comcast are just doing what is in their own best interests, eh? I would think you, of all sports fans, would celebrate this.
own best interests? wow you are way out there buddy. comcast does not come out ahead by blacking out ducks, huskies, bruins, and trojans. fact check yourself or go search AI.
Sorry Donnie, my spell check failed me. My point is that Comcast & Fox must have their business reasons for doing what they are doing. I would not presume to suppose that by blacking out the 4, they will loose a bunch of money. Obviously if that was so, they would not blackout the new members. But I think it is likely that they are looking out for their best interests, much like the duck, husky, trojan and bruins did the same when they decided to blow up the PAC-12. Thus, it is hypocritical for fans of the 4 to whimper and whine about Fox & Comcast in this dispute. It is what it is…let the chips fall where they fall, eh? Isn’t that what the PAC-12 traitors said when the PAC-12 chips fell when the conference disintegrated?
The deal is that if the Ducks increase your cable bill, everyone pays....now its a real kick in the pants to see Beavs have to pay now for Duck games...one thing when it was Pac12 Network and both benefited.
Ducks and Big 10 did a deal and Comcast has to pay more? Love those contract terms.
Directv slated to lose ESPN Sunday too...so some massive shifting may be going on....hope our data wires can handle it all as your neighbors, etc. switch to streaming options
what is your point? I am more confused than the day I was born....The Pac2 is on life support . All the other teams who left the pac-12 titanic have bright futures... OSU and cougars stop your loud crying. there is a huge reason why u got left in the lurch. DUH just try and figure it out. If you still have no clue, look at total athletic revenue for the last few years from OSU and WSU. Compare that to USC , UCLA, the Huskies and Ducks. Duh think again... money talks and crying as losers does not. "Movin on up," as Fred Sanford says. Finally, I feel that my Ducks can compete with anyone, anywhere, and have all the tools needed for a super year!!! osu not so much after they get beaten down in Sept. civil war....... revenge is sweet!
Cal, UCLA and Stanford have bright futures. This was good in the end for Oregon, Washington and USC. The Big 12 schools will likely be okay because that conference was struggling with the loss of Texas and Oklahoma. But, the ACC will die next thanks to UNC, Clemson and FSU (which after getting beat by my other alma mater is looking foolish).
As an Oregon guy, I guess you see one perspective.
Hulu is not great for sports. pls fact check yourself. Streaming is no good, and I refuse to let Jeff Bezos extort me for one NFL game per week on amazon. prime time, as he did last year. Bezos thinks he can really rip us off by having one NFL play-off game available on amazon. only. Another stupid trumpster is all he is. Can anybody help me install a huge satellite dish on my roof? I will pay cash for expert assistance. The satellite has to get all college and pro games live 24/7 365. Am eager for getting hooked up by satellite asap. email is donaldroberts258@alpacafurs.org or, on here I am at DONNIE DUCKS LATEST... " We like the boys in green, cause we know they are mean, we got the Ducks!" GO Ducks sky is the 2024 limit! 2025 too.......
I like Hulu sports. ESPN+ is part of their regular programming package. Beside major college football, you can also watch Portland State and the other Big Sky schools as well as the other smaller schools around the country, because of ESPN+. Same for college basketball and baseball. Like it or not, streaming is the future, and the future is now. I agree with you on the Amazon thing, I will never subscribe to Prime for one NFL game a week. I’ll be fine without it…Go Ducks!!!🦆
What a combination; Fox and Comcast. One network which has been found guilty in court of lying to its viewers and another corporation that is regarded by its customers as having the first place worst customer service in America! With a pair like this it's no wonder that the customers, ahem, suckers, who are paying the bill are getting cheated.
Comcast full well knew what the situation was but continued to take our money and show the games on their guide until the last minute. Total deception. What Comcast doesn't seem to hear is the roar of people, including decades-old customers, who are fed up being screwed over and used as negotiating pawns. I don't think the brain trusts, who got "outFoxed" at Comcast, get it. Once people leave, they aren't coming back. They are literally driving thousands of people to streaming services and ditching their cable programming at Comcast.
Let them stare at each other and go get yourself Fubo, YouTubeTV, or any other cheaper than Comcast streaming service like the rest of the 21st Century.
You tube tv does not show all Big 10 games live. fact check me. I have grown old trying to explain all this to you beaver non believers, and cougs from wsu too. Quit crying, and try to save the all new PAC2, which is bigger and better than ever. If you finish last, 2nd is better than 3rd
LMAO, YouTubeTV will have every football game that isn’t shown on Peacock Live. Not sure why you think I’m a Beaver fan, but you’re really not making yourself look great here.
Simple questions, Why does Comcast have to cave in to what the Big 10/FOX wants? Why doesn't the Big 10/FOX help us fans and agree to what Comcast wants?
Because Comcast knew all along what the deal was when they took everyone's $9.99 for the Sports Package, and now they want a second bite at the apple we already paid for. B1G is not the bad actor here. Every other content provider is paying the freight, but Comcast, after deceiving us, wants us to put more money in their pockets with the "woe is me" claim that they have to pay what every other provider pays. B1G has deceived no-one, including Comcast.
"....agreements include a “most favored nations” clause. If the Big Ten Network allows Comcast to distribute “inner-market” live games at reduced “outer market” rates the other distributors are contractually entitled to the more favorable terms. It would trigger a small fortune in rebates." (i.e. rebates to other cable operators)
Yes, and Comcast knew this, too, when they took our $9.99. Fox has far more to lose here, while Comcast can cover the same fee charged to everyone else. But they are special (and deceptive, and not very smart).
Could some smart attorney explain to us why it is not fraud for Comcast to sell a product and not provide what the customers clearly thought they were buying? It seems like there should be a class action lawsuit against Comcast. If I am wrong, please tell me why I am wrong.
Mullens suggests y'all step into Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine and listen to "Jerry, Jorgy, and Joey" on the wireless. Step on back to a simpler time and enjoy the glow of the vacuum tubes on the Delco as you try to imagine the football action as breathlessly described by the Three J's while you guzzle Ovaltine, This homey retro vignette brought to you courtesy of the good folks at Comcast sponsored by Karma (and not the one that let's you view your credit scores).
So since I have a subscription with Comcast that includes the Big10 Network I should be compensated for loss of programming I am paying a subscription for. Who wants to start a Class Action against Comcast?
The UO-Idaho and UW-Weber State games are both the types of games you would have seen on P12 network previously, I don't buy into the fact that BTN did anything nefarious with scheduling those games for BTN. I do think it's wild that they are blacking out those games in all the previous P12 markets that carry Comcast though. Denver, SLC, Tucson markets all look like they will be affected by this blackout.
I agree. Picking Idaho and Weber St doesn't exactly have the leverage that doing it later with Big Ten conference opponents would have. Plus, since the Big Ten requires a non-conference and a conference game on BTN each season, it gets the non-conf requirement off the board early.
I agree and with the Ducks there were only 2 choices for non-conference games, Idaho or Boise State -- both scheduled for the first two weeks of play. The Oregon State game is away and already slated for Fox.
John, I think you (and maybe the Big 10) have missed a key point here in your reporting (and feel free to tell me I'm wrong). The other three schools you mention (Rutgers, Nebraska and Maryland if I remember correctly?) are all what I would call "flagship" schools. They are the "premier" and only major school in their respective state. Yes, there are other schools, but much like Ohio State with their stuck up "The Ohio State", the others are also rans. I see that in Louisiana as well where I now live. LSU is the flag ship. And alumni of the who other major schools (Louisiana Tech and ULL) can often still be seen tailgating at Death Valley on a Saturday.
With the addition of the 4 ex-PAC schools to the Big 10, they broke this pattern. Yeah, Southern California has two schools, but they both went to the Big 10. I think that negotiation will be much easier there than the Northwest.
By poaching only UW and UO in the Northwest, the Big 10 put linear cable in a difficult position. Linear cable has to service BOTH school's fans in Oregon and Washington. Yet, after being told "it was all about money", the Big 10 is now putting pressure on linear cable to charge more for their channel so they can make more. But, linear cable (Comcast in this case I guess) recognizes that if they charge more, that would be unpalatable to Oregon State and Washington State fans. Essentially, the Big 10 is asking these fans (the the just screwed) to fund the murder of the Pac-12 by Fox and the Big 10 (let's be honest, this is entirely the Big 10 as they poached first USC and UCLA, then Washington and the now hated Ducks - if you are an OSU fan - with a healthy helping of incompetence on the part of conference and school leadership as you have already noted).
I guarantee that Comcast loses revenue over this. The question for them is what is the least revenue they can lose. And I also guarantee they have an idea what that number is if Duck/Husky fans drop or if Beaver/Cougar fans drop. So, yes it's a game of chicken between the Comcast people and Fox. But, it is not as simple as just charging everyone an additional $1.25 (which is what the Big 10 is trying to strong arm Comcast with - and which you have kind of supported if we are honest as you have covered this as your goal appears to be to let everyone watch the game they want to watch).
If I'm a completely unbiased observer (which I recognize that you are unbiased as you are not an alumni of either pair of schools and are being paid by myself and others from all four schools to cover them), then just making everyone pay an additional $1.25 might work. But, the way that the Big 10 did this business deal to enrich themselves and Fox makes revenue neutrality a difficult proposition for Comcast.
I haven't seen you mention that yet. I am curious what your sources say about that. Having two flagship universities in each of the Northwest states and having the Big 10 give the middle finger to two of them makes their normal approach not work as well. . .
Just my opinion.
Thanks for all that you do. How do I find when I need to re-up? Or is it automatic?
Appalachian State’s victory over the wolverines was the opening weekend of BTN and put it on the map. Ohio State played on BTN early that first year and most of the cable companies caved in the first few weeks. Comcast will too — possibly in time for the game. Larry’s folly was to go it alone. Fox has been a partner all along… welcome to the Big.
"who want them while not forcing others to pay for content they don’t want to watch.” And yet here I am paying for Fox News lol
No kidding...they need your sub fees, they just paid an $800M defamation claim.
That's how this rolls.

Maybe all those geniuses in Montlake and Eugene should have thought about this before leaving their Comcast-subscribing fans in the wake.
The three “J’s” on the radio are much more fun to listen to than the TV audio. Sort of like back in the day with Windy, FuzzY & Freddy on KUGN.
Having so much fun that they forget they’re calling a football game.
