I think we need to see a couple more columns. This could be a bot😎

"special is chicken and waffles, and fries.” Go visit Phillipsburg. Add syrup and gravy. You'll be closer to dead in the morning.

That's what you get for being so funny, a full box to deal with, 11 likes so far. Many thanks.

That was my thought too!

Was worried the bearded dragon may have sought revenge for having to sleep in the garage

John, I don't participate in any social media formats, far too much negativity and strange opinions. However, thanks for informing us that you are still with us. Having spent the last 3 hours assembling a shelf from Amazon then learning of your demise would have been more than my 80 yo old heart could bear on one day. I must confess that you are one of my favorite people in the world despite having never met you. I appreciate your writing and your unbiased opinions.

John Canzano's avatar

Thank you Ray! This means a lot.

Hey, John, stick with it bro, you da man. I claim to be one of your eldest admirers, I'm 91 and am here to tell you that, based upon observation, not personal experience, yet, death is not all it's cracked up to be.

Jim's avatar

Your premature passing did not hit Bluesky until I saw your post that news of your death was highly exaggerated. Glad you’re still around.

I’ve lost a lot of close friends in the last 6 months. They were around the same age as me (so not that old) but their deaths in rapid succession really hit me. My grandmother who lived to age 93, once asked me if I knew the hardest thing about growing old? No, I said. She stated, matter of factly, “The hardest thing about growing old is all your friends die.”

She was right.

John Canzano's avatar

I am determined to make 90+

Louis Nevell's avatar

......also not all it's cracked up to be. I'd settle for 80 right now.

Louis Nevell's avatar

Your grandma had it right.

The humor of Twain's remark is special. Really, when you are dead, you are dead and that's it, no exaggeration!!

"I should look better on my way out of this world." Spewed Pepsi after reading that sentence! Quoting 'someone', "Social media is the cesspool of humanity." JC's SubStack is the only 'social media' that I have...never been on FB, TikTok, Instagram, etc. and I manage to stay informed/engaged. Good advice to your kids, John. It really a scary world and getting scarier by the minute in Minnesota...

Facebook much like all social media exists to spread rumors, fake news, what ever you want to call it . Much like college football, it’s all about the $$$. Being able to post and spread rumors , lies anonymously will never police itself. Congress will never fix it, it feeds the beast. Oh ya and first and for most, glad it’s not true.

John, I think I saw your spirit self at the West Linn Safeway. Have you interviewed Shoeless Joe Jackson, Ty Cobb, Jim Thorpe, Ted Williams, and a host of Oregon sports luminaries

John Canzano's avatar

Build it… and they will come

Louis Nevell's avatar

Hell, I'll come!!!!

ESecPN's avatar

Well shoot. If you heard about it on Facebook, then it is 100% true. Side note: i heard a report that FB makes more money for their scam ads than they are fined for. What a poop show. Social media is a society killer.

Todd H.'s avatar

Never once heard your were dead, on social media. And I’m on my phone quite a bit, throughout the day. Cheers to another day of living!

John Canzano's avatar

I'm not linking the accounts. But they're out there.

Better to be declared dead and be alive than declared alive and be dead.

Glass half full!!

Charles A Roseberry's avatar

Not appropriate for the moment, but since you and your sense of family with the "posse" is still with us. Ask an engineer (especially one creeping up on 91 chronologically , younger psychologically) and the answer you will receive may well be "the glass is actually twice too big!" Apologies, Charlie

Jack Glubrecht's avatar

My glass is “always full.”

The only thing better than life with family and friends—with a little sports thrown in—is time with my church family, and looking forward to heaven!

Sandra Burgett's avatar

Thank you for addressing this. Really annoying to see the fake news, we know who promoted the concept. You’re so right, Facebook need to do much better!

chris's avatar

Yikes man. Glad you are still with us

I didn't see your death notice. Glad I didn't. Would have bummed me out. I am 58 as well and I don't like seeing us young people going away.

Say hi to Grantland Rice and Jim Murray from me!

John Canzano's avatar

Those are the greats

Louis Nevell's avatar

Thanks for mentioning the immortal Jim Murray. We lived in Los Angeles and the first thing I read in the LA Times was his column.

Dave M's avatar

The Times sports page was among the best, then. Anchored by Mr Murray, led by Bill Dwyre, with "Mudd"..............T.Bonk, L Stewart, Shav G..............and Jim Healy on radio.......

Louis Nevell's avatar

Loved Jim Healy, he was terrific!!

Re: JC's column today, "who goofed, i've got to know........"

Louis Nevell's avatar

You know, you were there. Enjoy the day.

Same with me, loved Mr. Murray’s writing.
