Although Stanford hasn't been mentioned, academics have. Anyone notice Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi, of Stanford faculty, won a Nobel prize for chemistry this week? Just askin'?
-- How many UNLV fans live in Vegas? My guess is not enough to fill the stadium.
-- If Dan Lanning wants to preach focus, maybe he should put more emphasis on his team's brain lock penalties and less on whether players are dancing along with Shout between the third and fourth quarters. The players' reaction energizes the crowd, which can be a factor in a close game. Hey coach, don't major in the minor.
I don't know how to submit mailbag questions. So here's one:
Bob Thompson tweeted this week that the Big12 will pull in more media than the Pac-10 due to the rabid fans of that conference. Question: do you believe the Big12 ratings will continue to be high after OU and UT leave? I would think the state of Texas (where 90% of Big12 eyeballs reside) will turn its focus to the SEC. Baylor vs TTech draws views nowin part because OU/UT fans care about the conference race. It's hard for me to believe a conference anchored by Oklahoma State is going pull big ratings long term.
Obviously something similar will happen with the Pac and USC/UCLA. The difference is that the Pac includes many large markets that won't care about the Big10.
yes I am a Husky fan but NOT a Ducks hater. Any team that gets absolutely CrUSHED the way Oregon did vs Georgia should NEVER be considered a top four team. Anything but that outcome could be partially excused. But having all that time to prepare with all that talent that performance was inexcusable, epically horrible. As a Husky fan I have seen some horrible performances in the last decade or so. In the 2008 winless season UW lost to SC 56-0. Other than that game no other team regardless how bad came even close to getting beat by SIX TDs. Oregon got a miraccle in the WSU win as well. Oregon could win 10 or even 11 games. I doubt they would be a vlid choice over any other one loss team. The Georgia crushing should count as 2+ losses.
Direct TV will never get pac12 network. Ever. They have zero negotiating power, losing 5 to 10% of it's customers per quarter, and there is no way if they haven't ponyed up the money to meet pac12 demands when they had 16m+ subscribers, they sure as hell aren't when they have 11m or less now and are losing billions.
John. Nike makes about every Uniform for all Pac 12 schools ; you have to respect USC because they refuse to be part of the color change charade that inflicts itself on schools like UO…
That’s why SC’s identity is wider known then UO. Nike adopted OSU’s traditional color of Black and spread it around the PAC 12 conference schools. All These schools look great in “ Beaver Black “
LOLOL respect USC because they want to keep the image they've had for decades??? Well the flip side of that is you "could also say" that maybe they are afraid of change...eh? Their uniform stance is NOT why USC's identity is wider known...Not even close...USC is in Los Angeles, an area of 33 million people and the West Coast Media hub of the nation. THAT is why their identity is wider and better known.
While we're on the subject, isn't it strange a LEAVER thinks black is 'their color". Hmm and here I thought OK state also thinks it's theirs, and Army, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Iowa, Appalachian state, Central Florida, all wore Black...silly me.
Really?? L. A. has 33 million people?? Funny thing is I live in L. A. and last I checked our population is under 4 million and L. A. County is about 10 million. But don’t let a silly thing like facts get in the way of your narrative.
The Broncos got catfished with Wilson. Clean and simple, not as advertised. It may be the combination of a new coach and new owners but things are not looking good in Denver. The coach seems in over his head, Wilson hasn’t been a force to be reckoned with, it’s all not falling into place. It will be interesting to see how long thing stay status quo when you have droves of hard core fans leaving before the end of a tight game.
Let me start by saying that some of the current combos are among the best that the ducks have ever worn. That said, these silly eggshell unis are the WORST of the current crop. My kids hate them too.
They should have disappeared the same time as Cristobal.
I feel OSU IS a baseball school and Football is a sidelight to them. I also think the Pac should definitely go to an 8 conference game schedule. Look what it did for the SEC. It's helped them "game the system". By playing an 8 game conference season, every SEC team is "ALMOST" guaranteed 4 wins every season, and only has to win 2 conference games to get to a bowl game. That surreptitiously boosts the entire conferences W/L record and nation wide recognition, which influences the polls, which gives them higher rankings year in and year out, which gives them more TV appearances, which gets their conference more exposure, TV revenue, better recruits, etc. etc. It's a well thought out plan to game the system and the media is complicit in it by not calling them on it. So...it's not going to change, so why not join them and tilt the playing field a little bit back towards the PAC 12/10???
Hi John. What is the reason for SC/Utah being in a more advantageous CFP position than Oregon right now? Is it Oregon’s loss?
Today, it seems that Oregon has better wins than the other two. And the UGA loss might be a better loss (is that possible?) than Florida who seems to be circling the drain.
I don’t think this really matters until next month. Just curious.
Agree nothing matters until it matters… being undefeated trumps all. That explains USC. Utah had a better loss. Also gets to play USC and Oregon in regular season. Oregon obviously doesn’t.
In the last five years what is the Pac 12 record against the Mountain West. Also, how do the middle four and bottom four Pac 12 teams fair against the Mountain West? I think the Pac 12 uses the Academics, college rankings, and whatever as an excuse . It is not the Presidents who don't want MW. The AD's don't want their teams loosing to the MW teams.
Did you attend a pac10/12 school? It doesn't sound like it. You would CLEARLY know the acidemics a NOT a joke or second hand concern. They are legitimately top schools in many acidemics areas and work very hard to maintain this.
Yes Frank...the PAC 12 is shaking in their boots at the thought of the mighty Mtn. West conference...not. academics and research is not an "excuse" as you put it. the entire PAC is comprised of research universities. the Presidents and chancellors have ALWAYS been adamant and prideful about being a conference full of research schools. You must be a BSU fan...only those fans continue to whine about that subject. BSU has a long ways to go to bring up their academics to PAC academic & research standards. I've heard they are trying to do that, but they've got a long way to go.
Grant You are 100% correct. The Presidents, Chancellors and you can include the AD's. are ALWAYS bragging about how good they are. Unfortunately, they are no better than those that don't brag about themselves.
After the LA schools leave for the 2024 season, conference scheduling for football should just be random from year to year, except for the assurance of each school playing their regional rival. This seems most fair.
Cookies and cream? The eggshell uniforms remind me of specked enamel cookware.
That's what I thought too, paint stained overalls
Haha I’m old enough to remember that trend from the first time around.
Although Stanford hasn't been mentioned, academics have. Anyone notice Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi, of Stanford faculty, won a Nobel prize for chemistry this week? Just askin'?
no, but I am happy you told me.
Couple thoughts:
-- How many UNLV fans live in Vegas? My guess is not enough to fill the stadium.

Keep in mind UCLA has a 5-year starter at QB. It’ll be tough for them to not take a step back next year.

JC, as wonderful as you are, you missed the brilliance of the eggshell uniforms.
It’s irony. A football team clad in eggshells. C’mon. That’s Nike brilliance. Oregon fashion forward.
I’m waiting for the Funfetti uniforms. They could eat Funfetti cake and no one would see.
