Re declining Duck FB ticket sales: beside all the factors you mentioned, which are all correct, you could add in the effect of the schedule taking a back seat to TV. We had season tickets for a number of years. When we started, kickoffs were often at 1:00 pm and you could plan on making it home to the Portland area at a reasonable hour, with a pleasant stop for dinner somewhere along the way. Then they started having late games for TV and arrival times back home stretched into the wee small hours of the morning. After a season where we arrived home after 2:00 am 3 times after long drives in the fog & rain, WE decided to throw in the towel and join that TV audience that the Ducks were catering to!
Speaking of prices...Allison Kraus concert demands $150 a ticket in Bend. Bob Dylan only gets about $80 for GA...Kraus concert should take in about $1 million gate.
I have an additional thought about Duck football attendance. Peg and I once had four season tickets on the fifty, the latest game we had to go to (from Beaverton) started about five in the afternoon, and during time outs etc. we visited with our guests and neighbors (we also sat through the game, except in the exciting moments which were few.) We also tailgated with our student children and their friends right outside the stadium before the games, and carried an extra bottle of wine or two to our seats. I once estimated the average blood alcohol of the fans in section eleven to be at least .08! Oh, and tickets were affordable for us. After we dropped our season tickets I bought a single for the Stanford game for $17.00. Now the program is big time, The Ducks are in or near the Show, which
means changes in cost, time of games, standing up and endless noise, etc. etc.. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I tune in the Ivy League games on TV, and even Harvard Yale is played in front of more seats than fans. Sigh!
The Ducks at 8.5 wins? Thassa crazytalk. After they whup up on Georgia to start the season, they'll coast to an undefeated season!! I'm gonna go right now and take some of THAT actio... oh... money. Maybe I'll just take the over on 8.5 wins. I suspect they'll win at least one of those challenging games. But in reality... I'm trying (I really am) to have zero expectations for this year. Just mostly curious to see what this new coaching staff can do to use the talented roster.
Yes, it sure is clear you love what you're doing. And thanks for the Mark Appel article - a class act who sure earned his moment in the MLB sun. Hope he stays for more than a cup of coffee now that he has found success as a reliever.
A baseballl manager wears a uniform because only persons wearing a uniform are allowed on the field during a game. I believe Connie Mack was the last manager to sit in the dugout wearing a suit and tie. Also, his trademark straw hat. But, he retired from managing around 1950. As a youth, 10 years old at that time, I remember seeing him on TV sitting in the dugout wearing that suit, tie and hat.

Get off my lawn! ;)
The grass is always green on the other side of the lawn (near the septic tank drain field)
