What a great day for college football! Texas A and M won on a strange defensive 97- yard fumble recovery from their own three, that included a lateral. My Ducks showed me a lot, and I was over-joyed when I saw them score three tds in the blink of an eye, after trailing the whole game. A gutsy win on the road, and it made my day! I loved how they never gave up, and I said before the season that Lanning was going to be fine. Bo Nix had a super game. Thanks to the SEC for Nix and our coach. The Beaver game was great. Lincoln Riley does not lose big games. He proved that at Oklahoma, and he showed me a lot at Reser. He brought his quarterback with him, and USC played well enough to win. Near the end of the game with the Beavers ahead, I saw Riley go over to his qb on the bench. He put his hands on the player's shoulders, looked him in the eye, and I am guessing he told him: "you are a great qb, you can lead us to a TD, I have confidence in you, and remember we came here together, and we trust each other! Play smart, we have plenty of time, and this will be a huge win for us. I know you are up for this challenge, and we came here together for situations like these." Then the qb went out and threw a bullet to a receiver who was only open for a second near the end-zone. An NFL throw with the game on the line! The Beavers will lose at Utah next week. Sub-super Mario Cristobal was favored by 24 at home in Miami. He lost the game, and I am so happy he is at Miami and not Eugene. The Clemson game went to two OTS versus Wake Forest. Love Dabo Sweeney and once again, he showed how great a coach he is. Clemson won and I will say again: my final four will be Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama. Even if USC or anybody else runs the table, it will not be good enough. Clemson has an easy schedule the rest of the way. Alabama and Georgia will not lose any, and even if one or both of them loses one game, they will still be in. Same for Ohio State. In the Pac-12 USC, UCLA, and the Huskies are all undefeated, Oregon has zero league losses. as does Cal.
WSU and the Beavers have one loss. OSU will lose at UW on a Friday night. Ducks have Utah and Huskies at home. USC and Utah play each other. Some big games coming up, and yesterday I broke my record for total hours of watching college football. Including college game day, which starts at 6am pdx time, and espn highlights after last pac-12 ended, I logged some 18 hours, and my average is 14, which was also my record. Now, I am on Fox sunday NFL preview and have more hours of good games , including Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers at 1 pm and SF and Denver at 5:30 pm. Monday night is for first place and I have the Giants -1 at home . Love most all sports, and football is my favorite. Sure glad I have three tvs with voice-activated remote control on each, and also comcast where I get all the major college games including ACC, Big 10, Pac-12, and the SEC. Throw in Thursday night games from Jeff Bezos and Amazon for about $4 each, with 12 left this season, and I am a happy camper. GO DUCKS
My pro picks for today and tomorrow include: Chiefs -5 vs. Colts; Eagles -6.5 vs. Commanders, Tom Brady and Bucs-1 vs. Aaron Rogers and Packers, and lastly Giants-1 vs. Cowboys MNF. I have placed wagers on all these games in Sheridan, Or. My record on the year is now 9 wins and 5 losses. This includes losing on USC yesterday as they did not cover the point spread. Two weeks ago I said OSU would not win this game. Next time I feel this strongly on a game, I will bet the odds and throw out the point spread. Vegas lists point spreads and also the money line. The money line on USC vs. Beavers was USC -300. This means to bet on USC you would have to risk $300 to win 100. You put up $300, and if you win you get back $400. It was a great day for college football yesterday!
Can’t visit Corvallis without playing 18 at Trysting Tree and stopping at Clodfelter’s for a Monroe Street Monster. Then you can watch the Beavs take down USC.
Regarding your short, dismissive answer to the question regarding Ducks who left early, it would now be timely to write about the eventual fate of all those players. How many are now in the NFL, including practice squads. Compare that with the number of former Ducks who are now in the NFL in addition to veterans like Mariota and Herbert. The number is very small when compared with those Ducks who think they are going to make living playing football. Do kids and their parents a favor by pointing out the reality of life after college sports.
Loved your original post. It was spot on. I am simply suggesting that this may be a good time to update what has happened to all of the wannabe NFL players. Keep up the good work. I never miss a column.
Dan Lanning reached out to me after the column and said he planned to use it with his team. I really think we’re trending in a negative direction with some of this stuff.
"Keep in mind, Kliavkoff was basically speaking to the University of California Board of Regents when he went in on UCLA."
Translation: Naked political spin. I get it, he's got to do it and is desperate to hang on to that LA market. But anyone can see through his specious math and "concerns" about the well-being of student-athletes.
For next week?
I wonder who your favorite football announcer is/was?
Color/analyst?
Have you met them?
Mine:
Announcer: Keith Jackson, past. Al Michaels and Gus Johnson, present.
Color: Madden, past. Herbstreit, current. Romo honorable mention.
Thank you, John

Thanks again, great information! Beavs by 3!
JC, your answer to the Q about which uniforms are best was priceless. You should run for governor.
What’s up with pac 12 network on Dish? Going off and on for past 10 minutes-missed usc touchdown , even commercials are going in and out with blank tv
Miami down big to Middle Tennessee in the first half, not a good look for Mario.

Read the link… 1200 words written about it. You’re right… a lot of agents, and sycophants, will tell players anything they want to hear.
