Canzano: Mailbag deals in danger, intrigue, the Pac-12, NBA, TV and whiskey
Your questions, my answers...
My parents used to order me onto the rooftop when I was a kid. We had a single-story ranch-style home. They’d watch me climb up the side of the chimney, lift myself onto the wood shingles, and tip-toe over to the TV antenna anchored in the center of the roof.
I’d rotate the giant metal pole.
Mom would stand on the backyard deck, serving as the relay. My father was in the living room, peering at the television, waiting for the “snow” to disappear from our Sunday San Francisco 49ers NFL broadcast.
“A little more,” he’d say to my mom.
“Just a little more,” mom would tell me.
I’d keep rotating. We got only two network TV channels — ABC and NBC — without static. CBS would come in, but only after a careful calibration of that antenna by this 10-year-old kid on the rooftop. I thought about that ridiculous scene when I received a great question from a reader in this week’s mailbag.
