civil war

- noun: war between parties, factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation

It is a generic term. There have been hundreds to thousands of worldwide civil wars depending on the threshold used for inclusion.

To connect the football game term to the American civil war, one civil war among hundreds or thousands, is both naive and arrogantly Americentric.

"Why no stories/perspective on that UCLA moving to the Big Ten is a good move?"

I was surprised at the opposite. Why were there no big media stories ripping UCLA and USC for prostituting their players and fans? College football is so used to having no direction, purpose, or leadership that we all just accept whatever happens.

Contrast this with what happened in Euro soccer recently, where the media response to the major cash grab was scathing enough to put a stop to the big consolidation money grab.

College football media has failed this sport as they've been too caught up in realignment/playoff daydream articles to bother ripping into Warren, UCLA, Fox, etc over their willingness to harm the sport in order to make the rich a little bit richer.

Your answer about the Pac-12 refs was perfect. Always remember Hanlon’s razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Perfect quotation - absolutely perfect

Don't forget that Elon Musk will replace all the baseball officials with computers to save money too

If Jimmy Kimmel can have his own bowl game, how about “The Civil War, presented by the Bald-Faced Truth?” Yeah. Rolls right off your tongue.

I wish someone would write about the state of Nebraska football after they joined the Big 10, that is what UCLA and USC have to look forward to. All that money to become perineal losers.

BillyBoy's avatar

USC is 12th in all time college football wins, around 28th since 2013 and T5 in 2022.

How do you define that at a perennial loser? #justthefacts

Exactly! A historic football program, like Nebraska. They will not be relevant once they move to the Big 10

The classwork at Stanford is kind of tough for students admitted as freshmen, let alone transfers. The school only takes about 100 transfers a year, so David Shaw is in a real bind with the portal. Stanford is in Silicon Valley so a growing percentage of students are majoring in computer science and engineering. It's difficult and time-consuming and most students don't have time to go to the games let alone play in them. Don't see how things are going to change in the near term.

Balanced life part of this column is the best part. The Elon Musk piece at the end is hilarious.

He got it wrong on pricing. All concession items would be $4.20.

A question- How do you feel about the rule allowing team mates, particularly linemen, to push the pile forward. I don't care for it, this will become part of line play discipline. Too many additional legs and knees in fray could lead to more injuries.

I read your column about Dan Lanning’s staying power in Eugene… with the recent article coming out about Auburn’s interest in Lanning, and Lanning’s reported (alleged?) interest in Auburn, do you think there is a real worry that he would leave after year one?

Continue the great reporting and continue to take care of the home front. I know you know “Happy wife, Happy Life”

It appears to me that that the Beavers miss Musgrave more than anyone thought. His presence made a huge difference in our offense. Also we need better play from the QB position. Gulbranson missed a couple huge wide open passes last night and Harrison dropped a beautiful pass from Gulbranson that truly would have made a difference in the game. Second go for it decision by Coaching staff very questionable as well.

Love your writing John! You may have forgotten tomorrow's big game! Duck vs. Duck, Marcus vs. Justin! Who do you like to win and which one are you rooting for (or not)? BTW, loved the podcast with you and Wilner talking with the big redhead!

How much time is Shaw getting at Stanford? As much as he wants. Stanford better be hoping he doesn't ditch THEM!
