Kirby Moore’s daughter, Sutton, started first grade last week. Washington State’s head football coach dropped her off at school. Their son, Cohen, is starting preschool next week. And the third Moore child, Crew, is doing what 1-year-olds typically do.

Said Moore: “He’s wrecking shop right now.”

Ready for the Apple Cup in Week 1? The reboot of the new Pac-12? A college football schedule that presents as an open fire hydrant in Pullman? I don’t know about you, but I’m fascinated by the unfolding story led by a first-time, first-year guy who could end up being the best offseason coaching hire in the country.

How did it start for him?

I asked Moore this week.

“I got the job on a Friday,” he told me. “Saturday evening I got on the phone with Chris Petersen, and I did not talk very much.”
