Cal fired the football coach on Sunday and threw a wrinkle into a coaching search in Corvallis that was progressing toward a resolution this week. Barnes was scheduled to wrap up interviews with three finalists by Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday, intermediaries of Wilcox and OSU were working to get the sides together for an 11th-hour interview that could change everything.
Wilcox and Barnes are expected to talk.
