I must admit I was discouraged and turned off the game and headed to the local watering hole for a nite-cap and when I jumped back in the Jeep to head home I heard the touchdown pass on the radio..I was sober and nearly ran off the road...shame on me for not being a Beaver believer last nite but I did watch the replay 20 times and it got better every time..

That sounds exactly like what a number of Duck fans did as the WSU game progressed into the 4th quarter.

Why are we still having games played at 8 p.m.? Ridiculous. After my beloved Cougars lost to XC, I turned on the game to root for the Beavs. (I'm a Beavs fan except one weekend of the year).I went to bed at halftime. Granted I'm getting old, but still an 8 p.m. kickoff? It seems to me that the conference could do something to change that so we're not having to watch highlights the next morning. And the most telling scenes on TV were the people falling asleep in the stands. If that doesn't speak to the need of an earlier kickoff I don't know what does.

Wait, what? The most successful NFL games ever were when MNF kicked off at 9 PM eastern. It was must see TV. Get a nap baby and then watch the game with a cold brew! 😎

You're right. I miss read something on the GO DUCKS app. It still presents the same travel problems for any game that has an 8pm kick off.

I went to bed seeing the score before the end thinking the Beavers are done for the season due to the QB situation.

I watched a replay of the game this morning still not knowing the final score and I fell off my chair.

Ben Gulbranson may not have the fastest legs, but he did great and looked to be in command.

I wonder if the Beavs would have won the USC game with him at the helm.

Beavs deserved some luck after late TD by USC to beat us earlier this season. Always Go Beavs!!

Thanks for all your great articles!

Glad I decided to turn the TV on in the bedroom after heading upstairs.

To think i could have missed some of the more excitingly memorable football in recent OSU history.

Just proved the old adage that sometimes it's better to be lucky, than good.

But it sure helps being prepared to capitalize on the luck when it comes your way!

Just Win Beavs!

I was still shaking my head over the Mariners come from behind thriller and had barely caught my breath when the Duck game came on. It took a while but they finally put the game into overdrive and it felt safe enough to turn the Beavs on. THEN the baseball game was finishing and I don’t have ESPNews. Was I irritated….yes to say the least. Finally we were off to the races except the race wasn’t going our way at all. I did my best to coach from my favorite chair sidelines but I must admit I was ready to turn my coaches field pass in when the game was all but in the books. Wait…stop…what just happened? Another crazy finish. Back to shaking my head and YELLING GOOOO Beavs. And, listen to the radio coverage of the last 13 seconds to get your heart beating fast. Priceless.. What games I saw and what a day of sports. Loved it!

2 road wins in 4th quarter this season. Not something we saw last year. JSmith seems to be gelling the program with just a few ingredients missing (specifically QB). Other teams have benefitted greatly from transfer portal in this regard.

Yeah imagine if we had a kicker too. How can we not have a kicker?

I think Sappington is a pretty good kicker. He is a red shirt freshman and he's got a strong leg. The announcers were saying the reason we didn't kick the extra points was because our long snapper had cut his hand and they didn't have confidence in the backup. I think that is the real question is how can we not have a back up long snapper?

How many field goals has he missed in just the last two games though, it's 4 or 5. If hed made the two this time it would have been a different game. I hope you are right, didn't know he was a freshman, and he just keeps getting better. Agreed on the long snapper though yikes!

Drove to to Palo Alto and reconnected with teammate Alvin White and Giant Killer Billy Main. We wore our swag and watched 3 quarters of unmotivated football. I was bitterly disappointed and frankly embarrassed. Stanford didn’t have the ability to put anyone away, so the listless Beavers hung around. Magic in a bottle began in the 4th and concluded with a score at the 59:59.30 mark. Don’t let those last second wins at Fresno and Palo Alto go to waste! Go Beavs....

It amazes me that we didn’t have a long snapper we could trust. People get hurt playing football. We should be redundantly redundant. Fortunately, the players bailed out the coaches.

They might have a backup long-snapper on the team. We'll find out. Have to remember though that most conferences limit the number of players you can travel with (it's a parity thing). Usually it's about 75. It can be a tough choice when whittling that travel list down to the last few spots. If you have guys on your roster who do nothing else but long-snaps, it's tough to justify bringing a second one on the road.

I was surprised that Smith would say that to the ESPN sideline reporter unless it was meant to be 'not for public consumption?'

Would a head coach ever say that about their quarterback? Kickers and specialty players never seem to get the same consideration.

Beavers absolutely STOLE that win last night. But win is a win, so just win. We have been on the receiving end of too many 1 to 3 pt losses where we played great for years, I'll take one back where we played like garbage. And we did, play like trash for 3 quarters. They sure looked like they didn't want to be there in the first half, both the o and d lines were lethargic and didn't look like they followed through. Neither set edges and I don't know how they didn't pickup the runs on those terrible slow mesh plays. While there was some pretty severe holding that held the pocket up, we rarely put any pressure on the qb. Good on the boys for pulling thier heads out in the 4th and making a stand. Boldens catch at the end was one of the most athletic plays I've ever seen, keep in mind hes 6 inches shorter than the db roughly. He reached right over that guy and pulled a damn rabbit out of his hat! Turned and took it to the house! But that guy and jam a steak asap. Jam puts in work every game, heads up running no flashy stuff, just consistently great play.

For the first half the Beavs on both sides looked like they didn;t want to be there. I haven;t seen that since Anderson days. Fighting and lack of discipline, I don;t think I've seen for decades.

Third quarter Defense got it back together, but offense just had slumped shoulders... it wasnt until the fourth the shoulders looked confident after play

Not sure what all of that was about, but they need to go into Reser much better next week, Wazzu won;t be as forgiving

Once again I'm not sure about some of the play calling. There were some horrible possessions and I think we need to run in those 2 point conversions. Colletto should have been used more.

Gulbranson is not as mobile as Nolan but I thought he played a pretty solid game and he didn't try to force any passes so zero interceptions. I think Gulbranson will start against WSU but he might platoon with Nolan-if he is healthy.

UnclePhil's avatar

Yeah gulbrandson looks good, but clearly inexperienced. I hope he continues to improve and that we give him a bit better protection in the pocket he got a little gun shy after some pressure but did pretty well standing in there for the most part.

Gulbranson looks good for a redshirt freshman. He is clearly the future. He will learn more how to read defenses and exploit weaknesses. His arm looks great. He looks athletic and I bet he can run if he needs to

It was around 11:30pm last night. I had enough of the game and rolled over in bed to go to sleep. However, I had to check one last time. I pulled it up on my phone, just as that final play began. I was stunned.....definitely shocked!! Like you said, John.....maybe this was just what they need to re-discover their mojo!!

Two surprising 'end-of-the-game' plays in the same season? Really?????

GO BEAVS!!!!!!
