Canzano: It's not madness without Vegas involved
The Pac-12 memories are everywhere.
LAS VEGAS — I bumped into Dana Altman on the MGM Grand Casino floor several years ago here. Oregon’s basketball coach was sitting at a roulette table early one morning.
He wasn’t gambling. Altman was camped on a stool, his back to the closed table, and his elbows were resting behind him on the felt. I sat with the coach and talked for a spell.
This town is stacked with Pac-12 sports memories. I remember Oregon’s Sabrina Ionescu posting 20 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds in a tournament title game win over Stanford in 2020.
The Ducks were the best women’s basketball team in America that season. They were going to win it all. I was so sure of it that I booked my airfare and hotel to the Final Four in New Orleans at halftime of that game while sitting in my seat on press row at Mandalay Bay Event Center.
