Canzano: Indiana's CFP title underscores Oregon's breaking point
Who gets to the title game next season?
MIAMI — As good luck would have it, my seat in the press box at Hard Rock Stadium during Monday’s national championship football game happened to be beside sportswriting legend, Dick Weiss.
Weiss has been inducted in several halls of fame, he’s written a stacks of books, worked for four decades at the Philadelphia Daily News and the New York Daily News, and was president of the College Football Writers of America.
He’s not just a sports library.
He’s the Smithsonian.
Weiss is a Philly guy, born and raised. He has a no-nonsense East Coast delivery. Monday’s College Football Playoff title game, a 27-21 Indiana victory over Miami, was the 41st national championship football game he’s covered.
What I’m saying, is the guy has seen some stuff.
At one point, Weiss turned to me and started talking about the Oregon Ducks, who got pantsed by Indiana, 56-22, in the semifinals. Weiss and I agree that UO has enough talent on the roster to get to the title game next season. But he does have one lingering worry I’d like to share with you.
