Congratulations on your outstanding and well-earned success! I love seeing small businesspeople taking risks, working brutally hard and reaping the rewards of their incredible sacrifices and accomplishments. You deserve it all! And, in return, with my subscription I'm getting by light-years the best return on investment in sports journalism I've ever received.
Congrats on the anniversary John. It actually read you way more now than I did when you were at the Oregonian. I wouldn’t subscribe to that paper just for the sports section but I find good value in your sub cost
I’ve tried to seek you out here in Vegas. I saw you, but timing it up to greet you just hasn’t worked. Our purpose (my wife and I, also a subscriber), was just to say thanks. So, I’ll do it here. Thank you for what you do and how you do it. Having an honest voice in a sea of chaos is a blessing, and you need to know it’s appreciated.
He is amazing!!! I hope his daughter is good enough to play for him the season after this next one!! I believe she is currently the point guard for the Corvallis HS WBB Team.
Congrats, John. Know that for this Coug in Colorado, you are the #1 source of PAC-12 news and Pacific NW sports info. Well done, and keep up the good work.
JC, Awesome 3 years, but one of these days, you should tell the story of how you initially took the job at the Oregonian back in, I'm guessing 2002. It was announced by Colin Cowherd who was still doing local radio on 1080 the Fan. I remember he had a high opinion of a sports columnist from San Jose. Also talk about the beginnings of the BFT, that 10 min radio spot that Isaac and Suke had for you at 420 during the weekdays. It might have been Ian Furness, who went to Seattle, before Isaac. Was that the true beginning of the BFT, or was it already in the works? Probably some good stories in there. Anyways, I go way back. Best wishes. Appreciate your columns now and then!
And interestingly, you seem to be in Las Vegas every year on the anniversary of your decision to fly solo.
You do great work, John -- it's no surprise your readers are willing to support this publication financially. Props to you for having the guts to take the risk, especially with one daughter in college and two others to feed. May you enjoy continued success bringing us the stories you do.
It makes total sense -- after all, it is conference tournament time, and conference tournaments take place in Vegas. I was just making the observation.
From my view, you have met all your goals and desires completely. There is no one I would rather read. And..a highlight for me was meeting you at the Women’s NCAAs at the Moda Center two years ago..you were so gracious to spend a minute and allowing my daughter to take a picture of us…
Your writing has made me laugh and brought me to breezy eye..I look forward to many years of your great and risky endeavor..
Just awesome, John. I've been a loyal reader of yours since you began your days at the Oregonian and I would imagine I've read at least 90% of everything you've published since then. So happy this has worked out for you and happy for the Northwest that we are privileged with one of the best sportswriters in the country. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for enriching my life with your words.
Like many of you, sports for me are more than amusement. Not nearly as important as my family, faith or close friends.
But an important part of my life nonetheless. As is true for many of us.
Hunting for quality content, I’m a pretty active paid subscriber. A couple of local Bay Area dailies; national dailies; sports-focused websites like the Athletic (before it was subsumed by the NYT).
I also value being in a safe, civil, engaged community of like-minded people.
And that’s what JohnCanzano.com has done for my life since it launched. John, it rarely even occurs to me that subscribing directly impacts YOU. (Naive, for sure.) Helps to be reminded.
But here’s what I want others to know: even when I’m annoyed by something I read here (PAC12 “brand,” for one 😊), I never worry that I’ll be attacked, patronized or marginalized.
John, you’ve built a community. One of the few places where people share, disagree, debate — but do it civilly. That isn’t an accident. I think it’s a reflection of the stories you tell, and how you tell them. It’s not lost on me that you don’t chase or write clickbait content.
This all is a reflection of who you are. And that’s the best way to create an authentic, successful enterprise. I have recently dropped several subscriptions that either are redundant or don’t pay enough attention to what I care about.
And congratulations! Your reporting about what’s going on in the sports world has been very helpful and informative. Your readers are much more informed than they would ever have been.

Remember how he used to, once in awhile, annoy the hell out of us when we was with the "Oregonian"?
I annoyed myself sometimes.
I attribute that to the pressure to write antagonistically for more subscriptions. John is too much of a gentleman to blame his former employer.
Thank you John. Appreciate the kind words.
Thank you for the support.
I was an early subscriber and have enjoyed giving gift subscriptions. Your column today thanks us. No John. Thank you.
Thank you M.

Next time, throw something at me... I wish I could have said hello. Thank you so much for this.
Btw…. Really enjoyed the women’s games too. Scotty is a Wizard

Haha! We will have another chance.

Thank you.
And ditto for this Coug living in Arizona. John, congratulations on a valued job, well done.
thank you.

I love it. Thanks for this.
Great Request!!!!
Thank you John, your work has been A+ and certainly fills a large gap in both sports and human experience coverage. Well played, play on. Charlie
PS I enjoy my personal interaction with your posse of commentators. Refreshing, and fills another vacancy. So thanks for that.
You are a valued part of the comment section. It's been fun to see this blossom into a civil and rich community. Thanks C.
You are one of the tribal elders Mr. Roseberry!!!
Just saying!!
And interestingly, you seem to be in Las Vegas every year on the anniversary of your decision to fly solo.

March Madness... or nostalgia? Both I think.

He’s probably still “feeding” the one in college 😊
Congratulations, John!

Thank you Rob. It means so much to me that you are here.

Thank you for this. Sad what has happened to newspapers. I feel blessed to have so many readers with me on this journey. Means a lot to me.
Thanks for taking that leap of faith! It's paid off for all of us!
Thanks Emily.
John
Thank you for the great articles.
I look forward to them everyday.
Go Ducks!
Rex Kellso
Thanks Rex. Appreciate you.
This is for John, and for everyone here.

I can’t imagine dropping this one.
Here’s to many more great years together. John.
Thank you Barry. One of the most pleasant and interesting byproducts has been the comment section. It's the best around.
John, you da man!
Thanks Guy
Thanks John
And congratulations! Your reporting about what’s going on in the sports world has been very helpful and informative. Your readers are much more informed than they would ever have been.
Thank you Steve.
Happy 3rd anniversary, John. You do such great work.
Thanks Howie. Means a lot.
