CORVALLIS — It sure was going swell on Saturday for Oregon State, wasn’t it?
Just (bleeping) great.
Bad %#$ing snaps.
False (bleeping) starts.
Sloppy %#$ing play.
Here was Trent Bray, the head football coach at OSU, about to be interviewed by The CW halftime reporter Nigel Burton on the way into the locker room on Saturday afternoon. I expected he’d calm the storm with some quick wisdom.
“We’re fine,” Bray said into the microphone. “We’ve allowed ourselves to create their success. Both in special teams, a f—king joke, and big plays on defense.”
What?
You expected a poised and measured answer? Nope. Bray wadded up that halftime interview and blew his nose in frustration on national TV. Burton recovered. Play-by-play broadcaster Ted Robinson apologized to viewers across America.
Fresno State beat Oregon State, 36-27, on Saturday.
Afterward, Bray apologized for the profane performance and explained, “I talk a certain way. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, I talk as if I were talking with a friend. That’s a place where I need to grow.”
OK, then.
Let’s talk with Bray like a friend today. Maybe he’ll grow.
