Canzano: Fans must be dismissed from Nick Rolovich lawsuit, too
Washington State remains fractured in wake of firing.
Nick Rolovich’s lawsuit is not overly complex. The former head football coach contends he was wrongfully terminated by Washington State University — fired without cause and discriminated against because of his religious beliefs.
A federal judge disagreed, mostly.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas O. Rice dismissed WSU Athletic Director Patrick Chun from the lawsuit brought by his ex-football coach on Tuesday. The judge, who hails from the Eastern District, also excused Gov. Jay Inslee and ruled that the lawsuit did not meet the standard for religious discrimination. A few other elements of the Rolovich lawsuit remain, left to be sorted out.
A fired college football coach?
A frustrated AD?
A judge and a governor?
Apologies to that cast of characters, but this column should really be more about WSU’s fan base. Because what this mess mostly left behind is a fracture among fans that still hasn’t healed.
