Canzano: Ex-Portland State football player arrested
Keenan Harpole booked on second-degree murder charge
Police have arrested a former Portland State football player and booked him on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
Keenan Harpole, 20, turned himself in to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in on Monday. He was transported by sheriff’s deputies to Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives and was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
A PSU source confirmed that Harpole played running back on the football team last season. He appeared in one game, a victory over Western Oregon. He left the Vikings’ team in January, per a source.
According to police, at 1 a.m. on Monday morning officers from the Central Precinct were dispatched to a report of a shooting in downtown Portland near Southwest College Street and Southwest 6th Avenue. When officers arrived they located an adult female who was deceased.
Harpole previously starred for his high school football at Mountain View High School in Bend. He rushed for 1,615 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. Harpole was voted the team’s offensive and defensive MVP.
I’ll have more on this as the story develops.
