HONOLULU — I ran into Marcus Mariota on Sunday. He and his wife, Kiyomi, were at Honolulu Airport, headed to Portland. Marcus was pushing a stroller. His wife had their youngest strapped to her chest in one of those front-facing baby carriers.

Their two Boston Terriers were in dog-carrier bags. Those rigs had wheels. Their oldest pulled one of the dogs. Marcus towed the other dog as the Mariota family boarded in “Group 3” and settled in their coach-class seats.

“Man, life comes fast,” I told him.

Another former Oregon great, Alex Molden, has eight children. I have three daughters. I will never forget the day Molden put it in perspective. He told me, “Three is the same as eight.” I thought he was nuts. But the Mariotas, their dogs, and their two kids looked like a party of eight.

I’m emptying my notebook today.

The conference basketball tournament brackets are taking shape. Oregon State is searching for a new men’s basketball coach, with questions swirling about the program’s revenue-share. (I have some details and figures.) And the seat for Washington State’s coach, David Riley, is warming, although I wonder if the Cougars can afford life without him.

Saint Mary’s basketball remains on hold… waiting for a Pac-12 invite.

The Civil War football rivalry is on hiatus… but it’s also the subject of a clever and fun apparel release.

Here we go…
