There aren't many who can self-gloss, back it up accross the sports and entrtainment world and stay in our conciousness for litetally decades. Prime Time is a rennaissance man.
Great hire by the Buffaloes and the conference. The only problem I have is how Coach Prime reconciles this opportunity with his kids at Jackson State. Wasn’t he trying the prop up HBCs and trying to prove a point that teams in that conference should get more high end talent and help advance opportunities of students who go there? Go Cougs!
He’s already done more for JSU, the SWAC and HBCUs in the three years he was there than they were able to do in the last 40. I think he’ll be at peace with everything he’s accomplished.
Prime! Yes! This is the culture of college football today, so Go Prime Go Prime Go Prime (and twenty plus years ago I couldn't stand the guy). Pac12 Rules! (eventually). Go Prime!
FWIW (not very much) how about add San Diego State, Fresno State, UNLV, SMU, UTSA and Tulane?
Distribute revenue based upon; capital invested in CFB/CBB including coaches salaries; NIL paid to players; amortized cost of facility improvements, TV viewership; game attendance and success in moneyball sports?
All of these 6 teams bring in far larger TV markets than OR ST and WA ST. and get the conference into the central time zone and the lucrative Texas market.
Not to quibble, but the Pac-12 appears to be very cautious (maybe to their detriment). I think they will take baby steps with the first one being SD State. I agree on Fresno State. I have heard SMU mentioned multiple times, although count me as one of the few that does not want to see these athletes jet set across multiple time zones. UNLV, UTSA and Tulane are interesting.
Revenue sharing is tough - there will be a reluctance to change it up, but a growing realization that the schools that have more success/revenue deserve more of the pie.
I like how you are thinking with the TV markets. I think that is actually the key to landing the biggest media rights deal possible. I sure hope Stanford/Cal can be at least competitive because the Bay Area is a big media market.
I’m not sure how anyone can forecast it will end poorly or is even risky hire. Nothing in his past shows he is anything but a winner. He’s a brilliant recruiter and his teams have been outstanding. If he fails it will be a first for him.
My big concern is whether the academic standards at Colorado will be a problem. Different recruiting calculus when you're at an FCS school vs. Colorado. But I'd have made the same bet.
I read a story in The Athletic that Colorado will try a "pilot program" to help with transfers that are transferring credit. Wanna bet that becomes permanent?
Love it! It almost seems surreal. What other HC in FBS has Deion's persona and energy? Not even PJ Fleck can match Sanders or Pete Carroll before him. All HCs will need to elevate their sideline and recruiting game to compete. And it has to help with the media package. Amazon and Bezos must be drooling to get a piece of this action.
Potentially, yes. Could be huge for Colorado. Could end poorly. But I think it was absolutely a justified risk to take for Colorado vs. hiring a retread or starting over with an unproven coach.
I may be missing something (entirely possible) but I can’t see any downside at all. He’ll bring his son to take over at QB, he will hammer the transfer portal as hard as anyone in the country, he will convince the deep pockets to open the checkbook for NIL deals. Once SC leaves for Big 10 Buffalos will likely be best team in the South
I had the same thoughts. I think people are questioning his ability to recruit to Colorado. I think he will sell them on a chance to play in the expanded CFP. I think he will continue to recruit well, especially at cornerback. He will expand Colorado's recruiting areas and I would be very surprised if he doesn't convince at least a few 4/5 stars from Florida to be Buffaloes.
This is a great hire for both the Buffs and the PAC as a whole. I agree that this may be a sign of a good TV deal in the works as well. I’m excited to see what the next month brings with news on that front.

What hasn't he done?

All the more help to combat the "PAC is dead" responses all over social media....
PAC is alive and kicking well...
Conference has its challenges, but the reports of its death were greatly exaggerated.

Cool!!! You nailed it John!
"Sanders-to-Colorado is splashy."
Ha!...and here I was thinking you only reserved the word "hype" for USC news!
USC appears to have done OK with the hire. :)
Welcome to the PAC 12! Increased competition raises the quality of performance of all participants.
It will be interesting to see the transfer activity.
We already know that Sanders' son will be an improvement at QB.

Let the fun begin! I can’t wait to watch all this happen! Do you think Prime Time can elevate the Pac-12 media contract payout for all the schools?
Interesting added value for Pac-12.
I estimate at least $10 million due to Prime. And that may be low.
They should send him as part of the negotiating team.
It's entertainment is nothing else and you can bet that
a whole lot of TV's will be tuned in to watch next season.
Agree.
Including mine!
Colorado has nothing to lose. Why not give it a try? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nothing to lose, agree.

A lot of sizzle for a school that needed some.
Wondering with all the exciting news swirling around the PAC-12, if possibly UCLA and USC might be pondering their jump. Just a thought.
Big decision coming on Dec. 14 for UCLA.
I’d argue this hire is a heck of a lot bigger than Lanning to Oregon or Riley to USC in terms of actual impact to a program

Win, win, win watch out ducks and beavers the pac 12 just got that much tougher.
Conference is interesting. Really fun hire. Most fun since Mike Leach?
More fun!

Big win for the Pac-12.
