Gloria Nevarez is a fighter. When the Mountain West commissioner was faced with an existential crisis, she didn’t wilt. She pulled out some brass knuckles, started swinging, and made a promise of a financial windfall to UNLV and Air Force.
She lost five of her top schools, sure, but she held what was left of her conference together and got a media-rights deal despite being the last football-playing conference to go to market. It took guts and brains. Give her credit.
This week, speaking at her football media day in Las Vegas, Nevarez announced, “The Mountain West will be meeting all their obligations under the Grant of Rights.”
Also, she said, “Feeling good about our stability right now.”
