I"m reminded of the long time great coach for Oregon named Len Casanova who in his 90's was still promoting, attending and connected to his players, coaches and the school. In fact Bill Moss once said, "Everything Oregon athletics is today we owe to Len Casanova." Possibly, a bit of Len C will emerge in Dan L...

Are you related? I Len's daughter, Andy, still around?

Nope! I'm an Italian guy from the Bronx. Graduated from Oregon State but want to see all programs from the state succeed.

Really good effort and intentional by the program...

Love it! This is what true sports are all about.

Go Coach and give these players a sense of community and togetherness!

Lanning was paying attention.

JC, the more I read your assessments of Or and OSU the more I can't help but believe substance is a key factor. Jonathan Smith, who's on field demeaner reminds me of Tom Landry, and now Dan Lanning, as well albeit differently than J Smith, emphasize that. I'm already thinking OR vs OSU. and how sad it is that one will lose.

ps...thanks for the update about the track meet. It sounded like a great day!

I thought about this the other day... the coaches at Oregon and OSU are both locked into building culture. Best of all, they both appear to know how to do it.

Al, your comments are spot on!! I pray that we get to enjoy both coaches, their personalities, their coaching styles and their on-field success for a long, long time! We were blessed with watching the Mike Riley and Mike Bellotti teams compete year after year!

I’m with you- it would give me great joy to battle ferociously in our civil war game with two great teams and coaches who value their student athletes and build a culture of pride and excellence. I love to see this! I’m hoping to see my Beavs to take you guys down in the Pac-12 championship game (forget those over-hyped teams in SoCal)

Here’s to years of great battles ahead. #GoBeavs 🧡🖤🦫

Thank you! I was STARVING for some recent up to date Duck football news...And I very much appreciate the comments on welcoming back into the fold some of the former greats. To be great you need support from everywhere. The best support is from the same great athletes who came before them!

Thanks for being here for it.

This is what fans love to hear from their football program!

I appreciate you.

Thanks John, for giving us a glimpse of the action in today's scrimmage. Your photographers captured a lot of great highlights!!

My main question between now and Oregon's next serious opponent, Texas Tech on Sept. 9th is, how much has the defense improved? With all the great QBs in the conference, I hope they're up to the challenge.

GO DUCKS!!

I just arrived home from the spring game/Ducks baseball game. I don't know which game I enjoyed more. I really liked what I saw from the newcomers... especially Birch, the two receivers from the state of Alabama and Mateo (It's going to take a while before I even attempt to spell his last name). The defense in particular showed progress. What a great day and I can't wait until September!

I thought the weather was a huge factor too... we were all starving for some sunshine.

Oregon recruiting has be consistently top-notch and as long as that's the case they'll pack the stadium.

Thanks for reading.

As a Beavs fan, I love to give a hard time to the puddle chickens, but this is college football... It should be about the team coming together and for past players to feel at home and still own a bit of the team... I am always happy when I hear a team is working like this and glad the Yucks have him and hope he stays for years.

Go Beavs!

John Canzano's avatar

Both programs should contend.

Very positive post. Cool! A together team will win games. At this point, how many is irrelevant. I just hope they have fun all season long.

Thanks for being here Jim...

Love it! Having a great OU team is great for the PAC

John Canzano's avatar

Yes. The conference needs the Ducks to be a tentpole.

How does having a great Oklahoma team help the Pac-12?

Kudos to the photographers. It looked like a beautiful day!

Including former players and their families is a smart and I think sincere move by the coach. It’s been hard to emotionally invest the last several years between coaching turnover and the portal. Hopefully Lanning is here for at least the medium term. As good as I think Lanning could be I envy the Beavs and Huskies for having great coaches that will be there long term.

John Canzano's avatar

Thanks. Yes, the photo galleries were amazing.

Lanning's father promised his sons that they would not move again once they got towards the HS years. Similarly, Lanning has 13, 11 and 9 yo sons. If he keeps the same promise his dad made, they should be here at least for a decade. 🤞🏾

Those ex-players know their stuff. Continuity and legacy really matter. That is the basis of "culture" which is hard to quantify but you know it when you've got it. Glad Lanning is listening

“Family” will be tested between now and in a few days when the door closes on the transfer portal.

Great article. Green team "won" though. Seemed like Nix kept wanting to get into the game because he really wanted to win :)

John Canzano's avatar

I appreciate you. Thank you.

Happy to hear that message from someone outside of the locker room. It was great to see so many former players.

John Canzano's avatar

It's obvious they've got some good culture. Thank you.
