Colorado appears ready to stampede into the Big 12 Conference’s open arms.
The Big 12 presidents and chancellors voted on Wednesday evening to accept the Buffaloes as a new member. The move could be finalized by Colorado’s regents on Thursday.
Did the Buffaloes get antsy and break solidarity? Did the Pac-12 fly too close to the sun for too long by dragging out its media-rights negotiations? Who gets the blame?
And what happens next?
The Pac-12 CEO Group has called a meeting for Thursday afternoon. The conference athletic directors will be included on the call. They’ll talk about their media-rights options. One member of the CEO Group told me they will “discuss the opportunity to ‘trade up’ through expansion given Colorado's decision.”
