EUGENE — I don’t know if what we saw on Friday night was the end of something. Or the beginning. But I soaked up every blasted second of it in case it was either.

Oregon beat Oregon State 31-7.

The fourth-largest crowd in Autzen Stadium history — 59,987 — was here to see it. I walked the concourse at halftime. The beer line was buzzing. The home crowd seemed happy. But on Friday this aging rivalry felt drunk and stone-cold sober at the same time.
