Canzano: Championship Week picks, bold predictions, and thoughts
Big stakes in the title games.
I’m in a beef with the experts at Oxford University Press. They’ve picked their annual “word of the year” for 2025, and it’s not sitting well with me.
The word: “rage bait.”
That’s two words, isn’t it?
“Rage bait” beat out “aura farming” (also two words), and “biohack” (one word) in an online vote of more than 30,000 participants.
Oxford defines rage bait as, “online content deliberately designed to elicit anger or outrage by being frustrating, provocative, or offensive, typically posted in order to increase traffic to or engagement with a particular web page or social media content.”
I feel baited.
I also feel really good about my Conference Championship game picks this week in college football. I’m on a redemption run. I’m 22-16 against the spread in the last three weeks and posted a 29-9 record picking the winners of the games, straight up.
Will I keep it going?
