Canzano: Boise State plays mean game of 'Moneyball'
Broncos AD predicts "football will break away" from other sports.
Boise State Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey said this week that he boarded the plane after his football team’s Week 2 loss at Oregon with some bad feelings.
“I left that game pissed off,” Dickey said of the Broncos’ 37-34 loss at Autzen Stadium. “We left an opportunity out there… our team was upset. They worked hard for that opportunity and had many chances to put that game away.”
It was a pivotal moment in Boise State’s season. The team finished 12-1 and won the Mountain West title. The Broncos are now the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff and wait for the winner of SMU-Penn State. But Dickey said losing to the Ducks on a last-second field goal was eye-opening.
“Not just our fan base,” he said, “but the nation realized — Boise State has something, and that Ashton Jeanty kid is legit.”
