I used to subscribe to the Oregonian mainly for your columns! Let's just say my subscription to your current service is worth way more than I pay for it! Keep up the great work! - Phil Westover, Springfield, Oregon
I went to OSU 1981-85, part of the Joe Avezzano era. Beavers football meant a bleak, dark and depressing season of, maybe, 2 wins each year. That is why I absolutely appreciate Coach Smith and his passion for the team and the university. Currently, there is no other coach worthy of taking this team to the next level than Smith. GO BEAVS!!!!!
Beaver fans really need to appreciate how Smith has resurrected the team from Andersen's near total collapse. Smith does seem a good mix of Riley and Erickson. Love having Trent Bray as DC. Bray, Kristick, Afalava, that era had a tough defense.
This opener against Boise State is HUGE IMHO for the season and it’s trajectory! JS has yet to win an opener and a W at home should springboard the Beavs to a perfect 3-0 start and the focus of the national pundits! If the defense plays like Seigler and co, then we just might play for the conference title! High expectations are on the mind of this Beaver alum 🦫
If Oregon can build a program with Brooks, Bellotti and Kelly. Maybe Smith can continue at Oregon St. Grass is alway green on the other side until you get there. Smith needs to stay and make it like
I spent most Saturdays of my formative years listening to Darrell Aune call the Fertig-Avezzano-Kragthorpe-era Beavers. It gave me perspective on what it means to win four games. Or six. And how to be grateful for seven or more.
Beaver fans know who we are. All we ask of Smith (and Anderson and Riley before him) is give us a .500 season and beat the Ducks every few years. Everything else is gravy.

Thanks for being here Phil!
Go get 'em, Beavs (except when you are playing the Ducks)!

They smoked my UTES last season.
Mad respect for JS and the BEAVS

1-11 … was rock bottom. It’s been a remarkable ascent.
A 2022 Civil War game with a berth in the PAC 12 championship game on the line? Go Beavers!
I would love to see if both had undefeated seasons until that game. Talk about a game for the ages.
Thanks, for the facts or proof that OSU is Playing to Win!!… Not Hype!!😎🏈
Duuude!! One day you make me cry then the next jump for joy. Thanks for the awesome daily snippets of the BFT!! Thank you JC -
Adrian

Oregon. He is doing a great job.
He feels like a long term guy at OSU
I like all that respect in the locker room. Testiment to their character.

Smith is welcome to stay as long as he wishes.
Jonathan Smith & the Beav’s thrive in the underdog role.

Thanks John! They better come out on fire!
- They have a team coming in that will be white hot and ready to make a statement.
- It's time for the Beavs to be the ones bringing heat to make a statement. Bring all ya got!
- Finally a Defense! The D is what brings the energy to the whole thing!
- If they wear those 2000 Fiesta Unis that crowd will frickn flip! :)
Go Beavs!
AMEN, John.
Go BEVS!!!
