Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State are joining the Pac-12. Staffers of the 108-year-old conference spent late Wednesday night and the wee hours of Thursday morning poring over the details before sending out the news release and social media posts that announced the addition of four new members.
And then — there were six.
The four Mountain West schools began talking with the Pac-12 in the last two months, I’m told. The conversations ramped up in intensity this month. Per a conference source: “It came together very quickly in the last week.”
The sides must have seen something they liked.
Is it good enough?
That becomes one of the first questions to ask amid the latest realignment scramble. Also, what else is the Pac-12 up to? The conference needs to get to a minimum of eight members by July 1, 2026 to meet an NCAA requirement.
