Rob Manfred is considering a petition from Pete Rose’s family to reinstate the all-time Major League Baseball hit leader.
Rose died in September.
He was banned from baseball “for life” and not “eternity,” and so a reinstatement feels appropriate. After the MLB commissioner is finished with that task, I wonder if Manfred might consider a little eye contact with Portland.
On Monday, Craig Cheek, the CEO of the Portland Diamond Project, spoke with lawmakers at the state capitol. He appeared in Salem alongside Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, and they asked a legislative committee to freshen up an old senate bill.
Mayor Wilson told the room, “We need a project like this.”
“It went really well,” one insider told me as the group left.
