University of Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens told me this week that he’d love to continue to schedule the Civil War football series, but some obstacles threaten it in 2026 and beyond.

Mullens sat down for a 1-on-1 interview on a wide variety of topics, including changes to the College Football Playoff seeding structure, the success of his women’s softball team, UO’s master plan for revenue sharing, and his hope that lawmakers intervene and help to stabilize college athletics.

Given Oregon’s financial advantages and Phil Knight’s support, does Mullens support a salary cap? What’s the biggest appeal to the Ducks continuing the Civil War? And is hosting a first-round CFP game more appealing than getting a bye?
