It’s time for the presidents and chancellors of the Pac-12 Conference to get off the high horses they’ve been riding for the last year and acknowledge they’re in a bar-room brawl.
For survival.
For history.
For each other.
The leaders of the “Conference of Champions” met on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in a zoom meeting that was also attended by the nine remaining conference athletic directors. The event spanned one hour. I’m told by a source who participated that “it was positive and constructive.”
Still, the conference I hoped would emerge fists high, throwing haymakers, instead offered a careful 105-word statement. It addressed the need to conclude the media-rights negotiation and talked about embracing expansion.
I’d have preferred a single sentence: “SMU and San Diego State… let’s do this.”
