Typical PAC mentality, which is why the conference fails. You do realize that when strong teams in the conference do well, they make more money for everyone in the conference, right? So did, let your pettiness hurt you. That makes a ton of sense. That is why these schools are leaving and why nobody wants the other schools.
The Pac-12 was fine with ASU/CU moving the game to week 0 but the NCAA said no. Why does the IMPOTENT NCAA have any say at all in regard to how the Pac-12 wants to schedule its games?
SC gets a bye week before the champ game! And SC gets 2 bye weeks! COME ON MEN! How can the conference possibly approve THIS for a team on its way out the door for more money? Is the conference that desperate for a Final 4 appearance before the close to assured playoff participation come 2023?
As to the 'plight' of UCLA? YAWN.
Thanks for the Civil War reference. If you are ASLEEP please do not WOKE up.
Thanks John for the fun read to start the week. Also, thanks for calling the OSU v uo game The Civil War. Lastly, hopefully the Pac 12 TV network will have a bye year, for our viewing pleasure.
Canzano with the scoop and score! Looking forward to the OSU UTAH game that will show off the new West Side on a Friday but bummed that it will be on a night most of the state will be playing High School Football.
Regarding PAC 12 schedule news, Sports Illustrated referenced you today saying you are a 'football insider'! They omitted best college football handicapper...
I say whoever has home field between USC and UCLA should also get a bye that week, and the road team should also have a P12 after dark road game the week prior too. Those schools won’t whine at all….better to hand these scheduling ‘whatevs’ to the non NW rivalry games in the p12….since only UW and UO would whine about them :/….out of touch.
Sounds like they decided not to be petty and give USC and UCLA all tough road games. But that would have been warranted after USC and UCLA stabbed the league in the back.
Ha! "Stabbed the league in the back." You mean like every other Pac-12 school would've done had they been invited? Funny how history gets interpreted sometimes.
Sure, they maybe wanted something better, but I was hoping for something blatantly discriminating. Road games at UW, Utah, Oregon, OSU, and Boulder in November. And plenty of questionable overturns on review from the booth during the games. They caused irreparable and unnecessary damage to 10 teams...the conference really should send them out with 2-10 records.
USC and UCLA don’t owe the Pac12 anything. Years of mismanagement and missed out revenue for the conference was more than justification to leave… Maybe don’t get emotional about it, Pac12 blew two huge game changing calls against SC in the first Utah game (they admitted this too).
Partners for a century or so owe one another nothing?
I'm not saying you are wrong. I am saying that I find the monetization of CFB to be frankly gross.
But I am an old guy who loved a regional game and the Run For The Roses being the be-all and end-all more fun than what the game has devolved into today.
BTW, even though it was the 'lowest watched' Rose Bowl, ten million people watched the game.
Bad calls in a Pac game a conspiracy? If so it is a wide-ranging conspiracy.
I kinda like it. Seems a lot of strategic planning at play here. I would add: should SC get to the title game, having a bye the week prior could be a big advantage. On the other hand, I think their Goodbye Tour is going to be unpleasant and doubt they'll be playing for the title.
John, you previously commented that you were leaning towards favoring Utah for a threepeat of the PAC-12 title if Cam Rising came back. I know that I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but now that he's announced his return (plus also Brant Kuithe and almost the entirety of the defense), do you still find yourself leaning towards Utah? Or, have you seen something since bowl season ended that's made you change your mind?
Good luck trying to get that information. Whittingham treats injuries like the Soviets used to treat state secrets. Not even Josh Newman from the SLC Tribune has an exact idea what the injury was or is. In today's social media age, where every slight blip is reported and no detail is too small to be analyzed, the situation is actually kind of refreshing.
How 'back' will Rising be? That was reported to be a very tough knee injury.
Losing a 1st round draft pick corner and 2 starting LBs is not good. And playing 2 P5 teams OOC is not a piece of cake and neither is playing as UW.
Utah had the "bye week" before the Champ Game last season playing CU while SC played Notre Dame. This year SC officially gets a bye week before the champ game.
Utah will be in the conference champ hunt, no doubt, but playing at SC, at UW, and also playing Oregon is a tough draw.
There's been a lot of scuttlebutt in Utah about Rising's injury. Up to this point, the only thing we know is that Rising underwent surgery recently but we don't know what exactly his issue was. I don't know if you know this, but Whittingham's policy regarding information related to injuries is just to give the minimum requirement. In any case, rumor has it that it was something related to an MCL injury, which doesn't require a long period of rehab. Most people speculate it was that type of injury because we all saw Rising walking pretty normally in street clothes on the sideline after his injury. He wouldn't have been able to do that if it was an ACL injury.
Losing Clark Phillips III to the draft certainly hurts, but he's really the only "star" that left the defense. At the same time, the Utes have a lot of young talent returning, including linebackers Karene Reid and Lander Barton; defensive linemen Junior Tafuna, Jonah Elliss, Simote Pepa and Van Fillinger (who suffered a season-ending injury); safeties Cole Bishop and Sione Vaki; and cornerbacks Zemaiah Vaughn and JaTravis Broughton. We also have Nate Ritchie, who started during the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, and recently returned home from his LDS mission. I really don't think defense will be a problem, really...maybe in 2024 but not next year.
Lander Barton is a stud. I coached two of his brothers in baseball and footballl when they were little guys. Lander was a baby. His brother’s Jackson and Cody are both in the NFL and the word is…Lander is the most talented.
Civil War rivalry game. I like it!
It's up to the conference to make USC's final bye meaningless.
Bye bye Trojans trading their war horse for a plough horse.
Because USC will make the PAC meaningless when they depart.
To be honest... I would have been a little vindictive as an AD toward the SoCal schools.
They could have given some of the other schools a better schedule and let them have
what's left.
Me too.

SC is allowed to play Week 0 but not CU and ASU.

Alas... they don't really know me, do they? I'm just glad a media entity acknowledged the original source. The worldwide leader often doesn't credit.
GO UTES! With mad respect to the BEAVS
Let the enthusiasm begin!!! I predict that College Game Day will be in Eugene on Nov. 11th.
John, what's the chance of interviewing Lee Corso on your radio show? The man is a legend and is the reason I watch College Game Day!
I like this a lot.
Even better if Kirk Herbstreit was also available. Those two go way back and they have a great energy on the set.
Ain’t gonna happen anytime soon in Eugene !....New Reser Stadium maybe or Boulder ! Glad the Beavers are playing the Buffs early .
What isn't going to happen? Gameday has been a frequent visitor to Eugene including the 2022 UCLA game visit.
Of course Huskies and Ducks are going to whine. If there was a CFP for whining they’d be top 2 seeds
But that's some mighty fine wine coming out of the Willamette Valley.
Are you whining about the whining?

Trollin' Trollin'
Come let's a troll on JC's floor, come let's a troll on JC's floor
Well, bless my soul, how I love to Troll.
Trollin'!
I wonder if USC and UCLA voted for "Draft A" or not.

Sounds to me you're the one who is emotional about losing twice to Utah! Oh and Tulane? Lol.
2 losses in one season is traumatizing from what I'm told
Partners for a century or so owe one another nothing?

That USC defense !!!
Tulane!!!!
So. About that USC defense👀

I need to know if Rising is healthy. Surgery? no? What was the injury? I am planning a trip to SLC soon to find out.

GO UTES!!!
Last half of season is when all teams knuckle down, and truly bash each other , and cannot wait to get revenge against the Beavers!
Go Ducks!
I like that this game is being played on Friday. Extra day's rest if one team or the other is playing for the conference title.
Thanks for the sneak peak! It let me book hotel rooms for Eugene before prices skyrocket.
Thanks for reading.
It will be a very interesting season.
Agree. A lot of intrigue.
Washington has the schedule necessary to make a “statement” - DeBoer and company will rock
re: UW/ORE whining - why should this year be any different? Ducks are always whining about something…😎
Let’s hope for an official’s reset this coming season. I’d hate to see things get worse.
GO DAWGS
What I'm very interested is conference game kick off times. Our conference has been screwed for years over the start times.
